Curia OCD Roma (15-05-2009).- ♠ On April 2 the General Definitory authorized the inititiation of the cause for the Beatitification and Canonization of Mother María do Carmo of the Blessed Trinity. She founded the carmel of Tremembé, in Brazil, where she died on July 13, 1966.
♠ On April 3, the General Definitory raised the house of the Carmelite friars from the Croatia province in Sofia, Bulgaria, to a canonical foundation. The friars have been there since 2002. In 1935 our Discalced Carmelite nuns made a foundation in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, and remained faithful throughout the long difficult years of communism.
♠ On Sunday, April 6, the new parish community of Our Lady of the Assumption, in Handel, Netherlands, was inaugurated, in the presence of Fr. General Luis Aróstegui, three fathers from the Dutch province, the Provincial from Flanders and a large number of people. The bishop of Hertogenbosch, Mgr. Antón Hurmans presided at the eucharist. The new community consists of two fathers and a brother from the province of St. Joseph, South East Brazil: Jan Bonten, João de Deus Campos and Luciano Enrique Veras Tito (cf. Communicationes nº 113, of 15-12-2008). The address of the new house is:

♠ The year of St. Paul is also being celebrated in our missions. In our Central African mission Fr. Aurelio Gazzera, a carmelite from the Genoa province, organized an 18 miles (30 kms) walk for young people from our Bozoum parish. 350 valient young people took part. After being blessed in St. Michaels parish in Bozoum, they walked with the father for 18 miles, with breaks for catechesis along the way. The people of Manga welcomed them in a festive manner, dancing to the rhythm of drums. Here, at the journeys end, after a meal of rice and beans, they passed the night sleeping on mats. The following morning Fr. Thierry Charles, a native carmelite, managed to hear the confession of all the young people. The eucharist was the best inauguration of this new chapel, that had been finished ten days earlier by an italian corporation. The joy of the people was festive, because since 1942 the christian community had met in a hut for the mass. The young people joyfully took up the 18 mile return journey by foot to Bozoum.
