Communicationes Rome - Italy (27-03-2010).- Pope Benedict XVI today approved the decree declaring “Venerable” the Servant of God María Felicia de Jesús Sacramentado, Discalced Carmelite nun from Paraguay.
This was done during a private audience granted this morning to Mons. Angelo Amato, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints. During the audience the Congregation was also authorized to publish the decree concerning a miracle attributed to
the Venerable Juan de Palafox y Mendoza, (1600—1659), Bishop of Puebla de los Ángeles (Mexico) and of Osma (Spain). The title Blessed will be conferred on him during the solemn celebration of his Beatification.
María Felicidad del Santísimo Sacramento (Chiquitunga)
María Felicia, nicknamed "Chiquitunga", was born in Villarrica (Paraguay) on 12th January, 1925, into the Guggiari Echevarría family. From an early age she was attracted to the apostolate and felt God’s call to consecrate herself to the contemplative life. She entered the Discalced Carmelite nuns of Asunción in 1955, when she was 30 years of age.
Chiquitunga lived barely four years within the walls of Carmel, where she died on 28th March, 1959. Her stay in the Teresian cloister left a profound impression on the sisters of her community who remember her for her great spirit of sacrifice, charity and generosity, all clothed in outstanding gentleness and infectious happiness.
Described as their “lily” by the Catholic Church of Paraguay, Sister María Felicia of the most holy Sacrament could become the first Saint from Paraguay if so declared by the Pope at the end of her canonization process, which began in December 1997.
